Wasting Time 2015- present
text based installations in public spaces
plastic cups in chainlink fences.

A friend had a warehouse close to my studio in the port of Stockholm. I helped him clear
out some of the stuff he had there and came across a carton of plastic cups that were
slated for the trash. The port is surrounded by a tall rusty chain link fence from the days
when the area was a customs zone. I thought cups squeezed into the diamond shapes of
a fence would be an interesting way to build words and messages; a lo-tech rendering
of text against different urban backdrops. I had a long standing fascination with chain link
fencing- a border which offers a clear view of what is on the other side;  a visual membrane
between this place and that, between here and there and between public and private.
I always look for a hole in the fence and have collected photos of these passageways
over the years- some made for the purpose of breaking in ( or out ), others more
innocently suggesting a short cut along a commuter trail.
The first text I made read "Jag har ett riktigt jobb" / "I have a real job". Since the start of
Wasting Time I have made several hundred installations in various locations in the world.
Some have been seen by a large audience and others have been taken down before
I´ve had time to document them. Some have remained in the fence where they were
installed for several years and others have had shorter lifespans.
In 2023 the cups that I had been using came off the shelves in the stores as a part  of
a general effort to reduce plastic everywhere.
